Neighborhood context
East Garfield Park has seen multiple deadly or serious hit-and-runs in recent years, a trend that has fueled calls for better street lighting, cameras, and traffic enforcement on the West Side. The neighborhood was the site of a July 2024 crash that killed two people and injured a third, as reported by the Chicago Sun-Times, underscoring broader traffic-safety concerns citywide.
Detectives are urging anyone who saw the crash or who may have relevant video to contact the Major Accident Investigation Unit or submit an anonymous tip at CPDTip.com. Chicago police continue to investigate and have not publicly identified any suspects.
