What was supposed to be a quiet soft opening turned into a steady rush of takeout and dine-in orders as the team figured out their first full service on the fly. According to CultureMap Dallas, the concept is the brainchild of Du, who moved to the U.S. in 2021, and is powered by a tight-knit crew that includes her husband John Watson, daughter Ruby Sun, restaurateur Yen "Louie" Jing, and chef Andy Feng. CultureMap Dallas reports the group scheduled the soft opening for Memorial Day and was blindsided in the best way by a rush of customers for both pickup and dining. The outlet also notes that Du previously cooked at the now-closed North Dallas restaurant Tian Tian.

Per Dumpling Queen's website, the menu features roughly a dozen dumpling options, including Xiao Long Bao, sheng jian bao, and thumb-sized pan-fried buns, along with a four-color sampler that covers beef, chicken, seafood, and vegetable fillings. The site also spotlights hand-pulled noodles and other recipes drawn from the owners’ Sichuan background. Dumpling Queen is serving both dine-in guests and takeout orders as it settles into a regular rhythm.

John Watson told CultureMap Dallas, “With the holiday, we thought we could open quietly, but it was the opposite,” summing up a hectic yet supportive first day of business. CultureMap Dallas also reports that the team converted the former sushi bar into a dumpling production zone, giving customers a front-row view of dough being rolled out and dumplings being folded.
Replacing A Familiar Neighborhood Spot
As reported by Cross Timbers Gazette, Dumpling Queen moved into the space formerly occupied by HERE Asian Cuisine in the Pines of Flower Mound shopping center. That April preview noted that the buildout would introduce fresh, handmade Chinese dishes to the northeast corner of Flower Mound and Morriss roads.
