An early-morning argument over a haircut on San Antonio's East Side turned ugly on Tuesday, ending with a man slashed across the back and rushed to the hospital, according to police. Officers say the wounded man did not call for help right away, instead seeking assistance about an hour and a half after the fight. He was taken to a local hospital in stable condition as detectives launched an investigation in the neighborhood.
What Police Say Happened
San Antonio police say they were dispatched just after 3:30 a.m. to the area of Utah Street and Dreiss Street after the victim, who had been involved in an earlier altercation on Olive Street, went looking for medical help, according to WOAI. Officers told WOAI the man was attacked by three other men and slashed across the back during the fight.
After speaking with the victim, officers headed back to the Olive Street location to try to contact the suspected attackers, but no one came to the door when they knocked, WOAI reported.
Another Violent Episode on the East Side
The slashing adds to a troubled run of violent incidents on the East Side this year. KSAT reported that a man was hospitalized after being stabbed outside the Davis-Scott Family YMCA on Feb. 19. In a separate case, KSAT also reported that the Bexar County Medical Examiner identified a man killed in a suspected drive-by shooting on Center Street in early April.
Investigation Still Active
No arrests in Tuesday's slashing have been announced, and police have not released any suspect descriptions, WOAI reported. Detectives say the case remains active as they chase down leads and talk with potential witnesses.
