Las Vegas Metro Police’s new east-side area command is finally getting close to showtime, with officials saying the station is on track to open by the beginning of August. The department expects to get the keys in late June or early July, then spend a few weeks outfitting the building before officers move in. The new station is part of Metro’s push to base patrols closer to the neighborhoods they actually serve in the growing East Valley.
Officials outline timeline and purpose
Sheriff Kevin McMahill has called the project “long overdue,” noting that officers have been waiting for a permanent east-side home for years. Clark County Commissioner Tick Segerblom said residents regularly press him on when the doors will finally open, a sign of how closely locals are watching the project, according to KTNV.
Temporary move, then a reshuffle
Metro officials say officers from the Southeast Area Command will be the first to move into the new building while their current station gets long-needed repairs to pipes and air conditioning. After that work is done, the new facility will be re-designated as the Hollywood Area Command. The department told reporters it expects to receive the keys in late June or early July and to open the station by the beginning of August, according to FOX5. Officials say the setup is designed to put officers closer to the neighborhoods they patrol.
Where it sits and neighborhood impact
The new command sits at 2300 S. Hollywood Boulevard, next to a fire station and community center and near Las Vegas High School. Local leaders say that cluster of services is meant to better serve a fast-growing East Valley population. The site broke ground in March 2025 and has been under construction since. The Hollywood Boulevard location is intended as a central hub for the Charleston Boulevard corridor and surrounding neighborhoods, with the dual goal of cutting response times and strengthening a community focal point for public safety and services.
Next steps
Once the county hands over the keys later this summer, Metro plans to outfit the building and then stage the move of units into the new command while the old facility is repaired. Sheriff McMahill and county officials said they will work with county partners on homelessness and neighborhood cleanups around Sunrise Manor, per FOX5. Metro has not set a date for a formal opening ceremony, but officials say they expect operations to begin in August if the current timeline holds.
