El Paso’s Star on the Mountain is trading its usual glow for full-on rainbow this month, lighting up every night in June as the city marks Pride Month. The monthlong display is set to splash color across the borderland skyline and sync up with local Pride celebrations.
The El Paso Chamber lists the star’s Pride schedule as running June 1 through June 30 and notes the landmark is typically illuminated nightly from about 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Mountain Time. That timetable creates a weeks-long, high-visibility salute to the LGBTQIA+ community, according to El Paso Chamber.
KFOX reports the lighting, sponsored by El Paso Sun City Pride, begins Saturday and highlights a message from Chamber representatives, who said, "The diversity of our community is one of our greatest strengths." KFOX covered the announcement.
El Paso Sun City Pride has helped organize this year’s Pride programming and has previously raised money to sponsor special color lightings of the star. Community fundraising has become a go-to way to turn the landmark into a massive, glowing shout-out for local celebrations, according to El Paso Sun City Pride.
A signal from the skyline
The star has recently doubled as a kind of civic mood ring, switching colors to honor concerts and community causes. It has changed hues for big-name performers and awareness campaigns, including color schemes tied to acts like Coldplay, Post Malone, and BTS, as documented by KVIA.
How to watch
The Chamber keeps a livestream and public schedule so residents can check the display and confirm the colors on any given night, while warning that weather or technical issues can occasionally knock the lights offline. For the official schedule and to watch the lighting in real time, visit the Chamber’s Star on the Mountain page, according to El Paso Chamber.
Organizers say the monthlong rainbow display is intended as a clear show of support while Sun City Pride events roll through June. Residents should be able to spot the star from many neighborhoods after sunset.
