Six Flags Fiesta Texas is going all in on the spooky thrills. The park has unveiled Werewolf Gorge, a first-of-its-kind family launch roller coaster that it bills as the world's longest of its type, scheduled to open in 2027. The new ride is designed with multiple launches, terrain-driven airtime and a kid-friendly height requirement so children and adults can strap in together. Park leaders staged the reveal during a nighttime show timed to a rare blue full moon, complete with a choreographed drone display lighting up the San Antonio sky.
Ride Specs
In a press release via PR Newswire, Six Flags said Werewolf Gorge will stretch 4,120 feet, include four launches and hit speeds up to 45 mph. The park is promising 32 floater airtime moments across a two-minute, 36-second run. The terrain-focused layout will work in a 40-foot drop, an 85-foot elevation change, a mid-course rollback and a minimum rider height of 39 inches, according to the release.
Story, Staging and the Reveal
Themed as a tour that suddenly goes very wrong, the coaster puts guests on what starts as a guided mining expedition through a Texas quarry before a centuries-old werewolf curse turns the trip into a frantic escape, complete with near-miss figures and detailed queue spaces like a Museum of Cryptids, as reported by MySA. The park had teased the project throughout 2025 with cryptic full-moon stunts, then officially pulled back the curtain on May 30 during the blue full moon presentation, the outlet notes.
Why This Matters in San Antonio
Werewolf Gorge is set to become the longest roller coaster in Fiesta Texas history and is slated to debut during the park's 35th-anniversary season in 2027, a significant capital investment for the San Antonio property, according to Attractions Magazine. The move keeps Fiesta Texas in step with parks that are leaning into immersive, story-forward family attractions meant to pull in a wide age range and encourage repeat visits.
Industry Context
The ride is being built by Dutch manufacturer Vekoma, whose Family Launch Coaster platform is used in parks around the world. Vekoma's family launch model and recent projects such as Dollywood's Big Bear Mountain highlight a broader trend toward multi-launch, terrain-integrated coasters designed for families, per Vekoma and coaster records like RCDB.
When to Go
Six Flags says Werewolf Gorge will open in 2027 and notes that Gold Season Passes and memberships are positioned as the best way to experience new attractions. The company also extended a limited Memorial Day sale through June 7, according to a press release via PR Newswire.
