A pedestrian was killed Thursday night, May 7, after being hit by a vehicle near Power Inn Road and Judette Avenue in the Florin area, according to the California Highway Patrol. The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators, and traffic in the area was temporarily disrupted while officers worked the crash.
Authorities have not released the victim’s identity and said it is not yet known whether alcohol was a factor. The case remains under active investigation, and more details could be released once officers complete their work and notify the victim’s family, KCRA reported.
Power Inn corridor safety concerns
This stretch of Power Inn Road has seen other serious collisions recently. A pedestrian was fatally struck at Power Inn Road and Calvine Road in late February, according to The Sacramento Bee.
Sacramento County project lists show bicycle and pedestrian improvements that touch the Florin and Power Inn corridors, suggesting officials have already earmarked the area for safety upgrades, per the county’s project list from the Sacramento County DOT. Residents and transportation advocates have long pointed to heavy traffic and limited crossing options on portions of Power Inn Road.
Investigation ongoing
The California Highway Patrol is leading the investigation and will look at factors such as speed and possible impairment, along with any available video footage or witness statements. Authorities typically withhold the names of those killed in crashes until families are notified, and no charges have been announced at this time.
