A burst of knife violence in the Fordham section of the Bronx early Tuesday left one man dead and another wounded. Police say they found both victims shortly before 12:30 a.m. outside 2466 Marion Ave. The man who died was later identified as 34-year-old Luis Almanzar, while the surviving 32-year-old was taken to a Bronx hospital and is expected to recover.
Officers had been responding to a 911 call at the Marion Avenue address when they discovered the two men suffering from multiple stab wounds, according to News12 The Bronx. The outlet reports that EMS rushed Almanzar to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, and transported the other victim to BronxCare Health System. Detectives remained on scene, and there were no arrests as of that initial update.
Blade attacks have spiked in the area
Blade-related incidents have been surfacing across Fordham and other Bronx neighborhoods in recent weeks, from a pre-dawn machete slashing to a fatal subway-platform killing, raising alarms among residents. Police ask for tips
There were no arrests at this time, and investigators are urging witnesses to come forward, according to News12 The Bronx. Anyone with information can submit an anonymous tip to NYPD Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS or through the Crime Stoppers program as outlined by the NYPD. Detectives say the investigation is ongoing as they work to identify a suspect and determine a motive.
