Just days before Fulton County’s advance-voting period wraps up, two busy early-voting sites have gone dark for repairs, sending regulars scrambling for backup options. The East Point Library and the Northwest Library at Scotts Crossing have both been taken offline, leaving nearby voters to find new spots ahead of Friday’s deadline.
County posts closure notice
Fulton County’s Registration & Elections office quietly updated its site to announce that the East Point and Northwest (Scotts Crossing) advance-voting locations are closed “for the remainder of the Advance Voting period,” according to Fulton County. The county’s early-voting page now points residents to dozens of alternate polling places and directs them to its locator tool and the Fulton Votes app for real-time updates.
In its notice, the county apologized for the inconvenience and urged voters who typically rely on the shuttered branches to head to another nearby advance-voting site during the remaining hours this week.
What officials told Channel 2
County officials told WSB‑TV that the Northwest Library in Bankhead had to close so crews could fix an HVAC chiller outage. The East Point Library, they said, was shut down last Thursday after staff flagged a safety hazard that needed repairs.
According to the station, the county has not offered a timetable for when either site might reopen, and election staff are steering voters to other advance-voting locations instead.
Where you can still vote
Even with two closures, Fulton’s advance-voting map is far from empty. The county’s list of open sites includes Adams Park Library, Alpharetta Library and the Elections Hub and Operations Center in Union City, among others, so voters still have options across the county during the final days of early voting.
Most advance locations operate Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with limited weekend hours on select dates, according to Fulton County. If you are not sure which site is closest or which one typically serves your precinct, the county’s polling-locator tool and the state’s My Voter Page can point you to an open location.
Absentee ballots and drop-offs
For voters who would rather skip in-person lines altogether, absentee ballots remain an option. Ballots can be returned at advance-voting sites or official drop boxes during voting hours. The Georgia Secretary of State notes that completed absentee ballots must arrive by 7 p.m. on Election Day in order to be counted.
The state’s My Voter Page also lists each voter’s polling places and sample ballot, which can be especially handy if your usual site is suddenly closed.
With the East Point and Northwest branches out of commission, voters in those areas still have about 30 other advance-voting locations to pick from across Fulton County, according to WSB‑TV. To avoid a wasted trip, residents are encouraged to check Fulton County’s elections page or call the Elections Hub before heading out to vote.
