A longtime St. Augustine food-truck favorite has officially gone stationary, trading the road for a resort. Funkadelic Food Shack, known for bold, beach-ready plates and live music, has set up its first permanent home inside Ocean Grove RV Resort on Anastasia Island, complete with a poolside patio and weekend brunch.
Food-Truck Roots Meet Poolside Dining
The Funkadelic crew says the business started life as a food truck and has now rolled permanently into a walk-up spot at Ocean Grove. The Funkadelic Food Shack website lists the new address as 4225 A1A S., Suite A, along with current hours and a calendar of live music, trivia and other weekly events. A short reel posted Friday shows off the decked-out patio and poolside setup, putting a visual to the new location’s laid-back vibe.
Menu, Brunch And Beachside Vibes
The menu leans into fresh, local seafood and messy, hands-on handhelds, including lump-crab grilled cheese, poke bowls and smash burgers, and the shack now advertises weekend brunch from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Live music on Friday and Saturday nights and a weekday happy hour round out the schedule, a rhythm that local tourism listings also note. According to Visit St. Augustine, the spot also offers vegetarian and gluten-free options.
Permit Push And A Local Vote
Before locking in the brick-and-mortar move, owner Amanda Oscar told St. Johns County planners that Funkadelic "was established in 2013 originally as a food truck" and requested a special-use permit to allow on-site beer and wine. The county’s Planning & Zoning Agency signed off at its April meeting, a step Oscar said would restore a previously approved bar footprint at the property. Resort Perks And Nearby Adventures
Ocean Grove now lists Funkadelic as its on-site restaurant and promotes pool access passes and family-friendly amenities that line up with the shack’s patio seating just steps from the water. Nearby outfitters, including GeoTrippin, run kayak and wildlife tours from the island, helping turn this slice of A1A into a jumping-off point for both lazy beach days and more active outings.
