A high-speed police chase in Gastonia ended with a jarring crash Friday when a car slammed into a duplex, shaking at least one resident and drawing a heavy emergency response. Officers, firefighters, and medical crews swarmed the scene as stunned neighbors looked on and investigators began documenting the damage.
According to WSOC-TV, the vehicle hit one side of the two-unit home after officers pursued it through a neighborhood. The station reported that a resident was left shaken by the impact and that police were still gathering information at the scene, with no immediate details on the driver or any potential charges.
Another Recent Pursuit In The Area
The crash lands amid a string of eye-catching pursuits in Gaston County in recent weeks. Earlier in May, a separate chase ended at CaroMont Regional Medical Center when officers tracked a fleeing suspect to the hospital and later found someone hiding in a ceiling, according to the Charlotte Observer. That incident underscored how quickly a police pursuit can spill into crowded public spaces.
Investigation Underway
Gastonia police say the duplex crash remains under investigation, and residents can expect to see officers in the area while evidence is collected. Authorities have not released any names or announced charges. Investigators are asking anyone with video or information about the chase or the crash to contact the Gastonia Police Department to help piece together what happened.
