A 35-year-old Grandfield man, identified by investigators as Christian Blanco Rodriguez, was killed Thursday after an officer-involved shooting that followed a brief vehicle pursuit, according to authorities. Investigators say the confrontation escalated when Rodriguez allegedly pulled a gun and pointed it at officers. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has opened a formal probe, and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol tactical team later found him dead inside a home in town.
What led to the stop
Tillman County deputies say it all started with a report that a gun had been stolen by a man driving a black truck. Grandfield police spotted the vehicle and tried to pull it over, but the driver kept going, leading officers on a short chase. Authorities say the truck eventually stopped in the middle of the road, the driver flashed a weapon, then bolted into a nearby house, as reported by KOKH.
Shooting and scene
Investigators say Rodriguez later came out of the home and pointed a gun at law enforcement. Officers opened fire, and he retreated back into the residence. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol Tactical Team was called in and ultimately found him dead inside, according to KSWO.
Investigation and next steps
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is now handling the case. OSBI notes that its special agents are tasked with investigating major crimes and stepping in on use-of-force cases when requested by designated officials. Authorities have not yet said which agency or officer fired the shots, nor have they reported any officer injuries. The investigation remains active as agents gather evidence and interview witnesses, and officials say more information will be released as the case moves forward.
