A Thursday night car sale in Brighton turned into a terrifying holdup when a would-be buyer pulled a gun and drove off in the seller’s car, according to Boston police.
Investigators say the robbery happened around 9:15 p.m. at 108 Leicester Street, where a woman had arranged to meet a man to sell her vehicle. During the meet-up, the man allegedly pulled out a gun and, with an accomplice, took the car and fled toward Arlington Street. Boston Emergency Medical Services responded and provided care at the scene; authorities say the woman was not injured.
As reported by WCVB, the firearm was displayed during the encounter and the pair left in the seller’s vehicle. Detectives are keeping most details under wraps for now as they chase down leads and continue the investigation.

How to stay safer when selling items online
Security guides and marketplace experts routinely urge sellers to meet buyers in well-lit public locations, bring a friend, and make sure payment is verified before handing over keys or paperwork. They also advise avoiding meet-ups at private homes and warn sellers to watch for overpayment or fake-check scams, according to Keeper Security. The Brighton robbery is a stark reminder of why those precautions matter when arranging in-person deals.
The investigation remains active and police have not announced any arrests; WCVB aired the initial report and will update coverage as new information is released. Community members with tips are urged to contact Boston police or share information anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
