According to ABC7 Chicago, deputies were called after an adult was brought to the hospital following what officials described as an officer-involved shooting. Detectives were at the scene, and ABC7 reported that the Gary Police Department and Methodist Northlake had been contacted for comment.
The incident took place at Methodist Hospitals' Northlake Campus, the health system's Gary facility that serves much of Northwest Indiana. Methodist Hospitals lists the Northlake Campus at 600 Grant Street in Gary.
Investigation underway
Lake County detectives are handling the investigation, a role the sheriff's office has taken in previous officer-involved shootings in Gary. The City of Gary's police news archive states that Lake County investigators typically conduct independent reviews of on-duty uses of force, and that municipal policy often results in involved officers being placed on administrative leave while those investigations are in progress.
Local context: policing and past incidents
Gary has seen several high-profile officer-involved shootings in recent years that have drawn extensive investigations and public scrutiny. One widely covered case in 2025, in which a man holding a baby was fatally shot, led to a Lake County probe and drew regional attention from outlets including the Chicago Sun-Times.
As of Wednesday evening, authorities had not released additional details about what led up to the latest shooting or the injured person's condition. ABC7 reported that it had reached out to the Gary Police Department and Methodist Northlake for comment. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Lake County Sheriff's Investigation Division.
