What started as an early Saturday evening around a southeast Raleigh shopping strip turned tense when gunfire broke out near Poole Road, sending three men to the hospital with gunshot wounds, police said.
Officers were called around 6:50 p.m. to the area of Poole Road at Angier Avenue, near New Bern Avenue and a Dollar Tree. When they arrived, they found three men with gunshot wounds to their extremities. All three were taken to a nearby hospital, and their injuries were not believed to be life threatening, according to police.
Police: No Immediate Threat, Suspect Still Sought
Raleigh police said the shooting happened around 6:50 p.m. and confirmed that the victims had been shot in their extremities. Officers told reporters there was no ongoing threat to the community as the investigation got underway, according to CBS17. Detectives continued searching for a suspect late into the evening.
Neighborhood Context
The Poole Road and New Bern Avenue corridor has seen multiple violent incidents in recent months, and neighbors say each new case deepens long running concerns about safety. Community organizers and residents told a bus-stop shooting during an anti-violence meeting earlier this month that the violence has underscored calls for more youth programs and gun buybacks in the area.
What Police Are Asking
Investigators are asking anyone with information or video of the shooting to contact Raleigh police. No arrests had been announced as of the latest update, and detectives are canvassing the area and following leads as the case remains active, according to CBS17.
