An officer-involved shooting in Corinth is under state review after a domestic-dispute call on W. Harris Circle turned violent Friday, leaving one person hospitalized and a neighborhood rattled.
Authorities say officers responded to the home for a domestic disturbance when they encountered a person who resisted as they tried to detain them. During the confrontation, the person reportedly fired a weapon at officers, and one officer shot back. The individual was taken to a hospital in stable condition, and officials say the officers did not suffer serious physical injuries.
According to FOX13 Memphis, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is gathering physical evidence and interviewing witnesses as part of its probe. Investigators have not released the names of anyone involved, citing the ongoing nature of the case.
State investigators and the review process
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, a division of the Department of Public Safety, is the statewide agency that handles officer-involved shootings. According to the department’s description, MBI typically collects evidence from the scene, takes witness statements, and reviews any available body-worn camera footage during its inquiries.
Once MBI wraps up its work, it forwards its findings to the state Attorney General’s Office for review and a possible grand jury presentation, a process examined recently by Mississippi Today. That step, not the initial scene investigation, is what ultimately determines whether prosecutors bring criminal charges.
What comes next in Corinth
Corinth residents have seen this playbook before. In 2024, a similar MBI review followed a deputy-involved shooting in 2024, and that case underscored how long these probes can take, often stretching over several weeks.
For now, MBI has not given a public timetable for when it will release findings from this latest shooting, and no criminal charges have been announced. Officials are asking anyone with information to email [email protected]. They say updates will come once investigators have confirmed more details.
