Gunfire shattered the quiet on 11th Avenue in Nashville on Wednesday, leaving one person wounded and a neighborhood on edge as Metro officers swarmed the scene. Police shut down part of the street while detectives marked shell casings, photographed evidence, and moved in and out of nearby buildings. The victim was rushed to a hospital, and officials have not released the person’s condition or identity. Neighbors told reporters they heard multiple shots, and officers began canvassing surrounding properties soon after.
Police investigating
According to WKRN, Metro Nashville Police were called to the 11th Avenue area after reports of gunfire and arrived to find one person with a gunshot wound. The station reported that detectives began processing the scene while also working to track down surveillance footage and identify witnesses. As of that report, investigators had not released any suspect description.
Related arrest earlier this week
The shooting follows another rapid-response incident on the same street earlier in the week. On May 17, Metro officers arrested Lacharlerrcus Deshawn McWilliams after police say he fired multiple shots near a playground and then ran into an apartment at 1318 11th Ave. S., WSMV reported. Davidson County Sheriff’s Office booking records show McWilliams was taken into custody on May 17 and booked on multiple counts, including reckless endangerment and weapon-possession charges.
What the charges could mean
Those booking records list a prior domestic-violence conviction. Under 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(9), the federal law that covers certain firearm restrictions, people convicted of a qualifying misdemeanor domestic-violence offense are barred from possessing guns. Local prosecutors have not indicated whether they will seek federal review related to the case, and Metro detectives say the investigation into both incidents on 11th Avenue remains active.
How police track gun injuries
Metro Nashville Police maintain public data dashboards that map fatal and nonfatal gunshot injuries along with other crime statistics, tools the department says help identify patterns and focus enforcement and prevention work. The MNPD dashboard is updated daily and includes an interactive gunshot-injuries map for Davidson County (MNPD).
Anyone with information about Wednesday’s shooting is asked to contact Metro Nashville Police at 615-862-8600 or submit tips through the department’s online reporting tools, officials said. Hoodline will update this post as additional details or official statements are released.
