A quiet Tuesday morning in East Nashville turned into a crime scene when a woman was shot inside a home on Cottonwood Drive while children were also in the house, police said. The shooting was reported at about 8:20 a.m. northeast of Nashville International Airport, and officers said the woman is expected to survive her injuries.
Officers on scene confirmed that kids were inside the home at the time of the gunfire, but could not say how many or how old they were, according to WSMV. Investigators also told the station that the shooter was still on the run as of Tuesday afternoon.
Investigation underway
Metro detectives have opened an investigation and are canvassing the Cottonwood Drive neighborhood for witnesses and any available surveillance footage that might show the shooter or a getaway vehicle. The Davidson County district attorney’s office has noted that violent offenses dropped nearly 14 percent in 2025 based on MNPD data, a trend local officials frequently cite while pushing ongoing public safety initiatives. That broader context is outlined in the District Attorney's Office media summary.
What the police say and what is next
Authorities told WSMV they were still searching for the triggerman as of Tuesday afternoon and had not released any description of a suspect or a possible motive. Detectives were going door to door in nearby houses and reviewing any camera footage they could find in an effort to piece together what happened inside the home. Officials have not provided additional details about the victim or about any possible witnesses.
