Chicago’s Magnificent Mile is getting a splash of bubblegum pink, or so it appears. Pink-and-white awnings and a giant signature bow have popped up on a ground-floor storefront at the LondonHouse, with signs announcing “Hello Kitty Cafe Chicago” and “Coming soon.” The setup faces Michigan Avenue and has been stopping pedestrians in their tracks at the busy corner.
Photos and video of the new awnings and an oversized bow perched above a “Hello Kitty Cafe” sign were shared by NBC Chicago, which reported that the apparent cafe is on the hotel's bottom floor at 360 N. Michigan Ave. The outlet also noted that Sanrio, the company behind Hello Kitty, did not immediately respond to requests for information. There is still no confirmed opening date, and officials have yet to reveal what might be on the Chicago menu.
What To Expect From The Menu
Sanrio’s U.S. cafe concepts range from roving trucks to full-fledged “Grand Cafe” locations that lean hard into pastries and specialty drinks. At its Irvine Grand Cafe, the brand lists freshly baked cookies, cakes, donuts, mini hot donuts, and a lineup of handmade hot and iced beverages on the menu. According to Sanrio, some Hello Kitty spots also run reservation-only afternoon tea service and a cocktail program, a format that Chicago could potentially adopt if the space is built out to support it. Fans should also brace for a serious merch presence alongside all the sweets.
Why The Mag Mile Location Matters
The LondonHouse space is part of roughly 30,000 square feet of retail condo at the base of a high-profile hotel, a package brokers have been working to bring back to life. Past leasing materials have floated Hello Kitty among the concepts eyed for the site. As reported by The Real Deal, national tenants are central to a broader push to reenergize the Mag Mile with tourist- and family-focused brands, and a Hello Kitty Cafe would add a very Instagram-ready attraction to that playbook.
Inspections And Timing
A public inspection aggregator shows a food-safety entry tied to “Hello Kitty Cafe” at 360 N. Michigan Ave marked as a failed inspection on April 17, 2026, citing multiple violations including plumbing and sewage issues, according to CleanPlate Chicago. It is not clear whether that listing reflects a pre-opening check during construction or an inspection of an operating business; the location does not appear to be open to customers yet. NBC Chicago also noted that Sanrio had not immediately replied to requests for comment on the inspection listing and the new storefront signage.
Many locals may remember the Hello Kitty Cafe Truck rolling through the Chicago area during its 2025 U.S. tour, stopping at suburban malls and drumming up demand among fans, according to FOX 32 Chicago. For now, the fresh signage at LondonHouse is the strongest hint that the brand may be staking a permanent claim on the Mag Mile; there is still no announced opening date and no sneak peek at what the Chicago-specific menu might hold.
