A motorcyclist was killed late Sunday morning after a high-speed crash on the VFW Parkway in West Roxbury, according to state police. Troopers responded to the southbound side of the roadway around 11:45 a.m., where they found the rider in the grassy median beside his motorcycle. He was taken to a nearby hospital and later pronounced dead.
Massachusetts State Police said preliminary findings indicate the motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed when the rider tried to pass another vehicle and lost control, NBC Boston reported. Investigators said the rider’s name is being withheld until family can be notified, and no additional details were immediately released.
Scene And Response
Photos from the scene show a badly damaged motorcycle and a snapped light pole in the median across from the Parkway nursing home, with crews working to clear debris and secure the area, according to Universal Hub. Boston Police diverted southbound traffic while emergency crews and state troopers handled the crash response and initial investigation.
Riding Season And Safety Trends
The fatal crash comes as motorcycle deaths in Massachusetts have been climbing. State crash data show 71 motorcycle operator fatalities in 2024, a tally officials say is part of a broader safety problem on the roads, according to Fall River Reporter. With warmer weather putting more riders on the streets, state and rider-safety officials are urging everyone behind the wheel to dial up their awareness and caution.
Massachusetts State Police continue to investigate the West Roxbury crash. The rider’s name remains withheld while family notification is completed, and authorities have not released further information, NBC Boston reported.
