Statewide Safety Focus on Young Drivers
The Oregon Department of Transportation has identified young drivers and risky behaviors, including speeding, distracted driving and impairment, as key areas of concern across the state. In its 2026 Transportation Safety Action Plan, ODOT outlines education, enforcement and engineering strategies intended to reduce fatal and serious-injury crashes. Rural two-lane routes are highlighted as carrying higher risks for run-off-road and rollover crashes, which tend to result in more severe outcomes.
Where the Crash Happened
Oregon Route 223, commonly known as the Kings Valley Highway, runs from US-20 in Wren north toward Dallas and passes through Kings Valley and other rural communities. The state route is a roughly 31-mile corridor that crosses Benton and Polk counties and is maintained by ODOT. Drivers on OR-223 travel through winding, largely rural terrain where help and cell service can be limited in places.
Authorities have not released additional information about what caused Saturday's crash. Anyone with photos, video or details is asked to contact the Benton County Sheriff's Office at the address or email listed on its contact page. This story will be updated as officials release more information.
