Afternoon traffic at a busy Jacksonville intersection turned unsettling when surveillance cameras captured a man lifting a woman off the ground and carrying her into a white vehicle, prompting police to ask the public for help and to confirm the woman’s safety.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office released the brief clip from Blanding Boulevard and 118th Street, showing what appears to be an argument that escalates into the man picking the woman up and placing her inside the car. Detectives are now working to identify both people and to make sure the woman is okay.
What the video shows
According to a post by the Jax Sheriff's Office, the surveillance footage shows a Black man in his 20s arguing with a Black woman in her 20s near the Blanding and 118th intersection this afternoon. In the video, the man follows the woman, then lifts her and carries her into a white vehicle.
The post describes the man as wearing a light-colored shirt and black pants, with small twists in his hair. The sheriff’s account shared the clip on May 7 and asked anyone who recognizes either person to contact investigators.
Police seek to confirm woman's welfare
In the JSO post, the agency wrote, “we want to make sure the woman is safe,” urging anyone with information to call. The woman is described as appearing to be in her early 20s and wearing a gray hoodie and black pants.
Investigators are specifically asking nearby drivers and residents to review any dash cam or private surveillance recordings from around the time of the incident, in case additional camera angles captured more of what happened.
How to report tips
The sheriff’s office is asking anyone who knows the identities of the people in the clip to call the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office at 904.630.0500 or to report anonymously to First Coast Crime Stoppers at 1.866.845.TIPS (8477), per the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office website.
Tips can also be emailed to [email protected] and may be eligible for a reward if they lead to an arrest. The JSO page notes that using the Crime Stoppers line helps protect tipsters’ identities.
Local context
Blanding Boulevard has been the scene of recent high-profile incidents. In March, the sheriff’s office released body-camera footage after a vehicle was stolen from a CVS on Blanding with a 19-month-old inside, an episode that highlighted the role witnesses and surveillance played in resolving a case, as reported by News4Jax.
That earlier case ended with the child safely returned to the mother and an arrest, underscoring detectives’ reliance on community tips. The new video and the sheriff’s plea for help again put the spotlight on neighbors and drivers who might have useful footage sitting quietly on a hard drive.
If you were near Blanding and 118th this afternoon and saw anything or have video, investigators are asking you to review it and contact the sheriff’s office or First Coast Crime Stoppers with any information. The sheriff’s office said it is investigating and urged anyone with knowledge to come forward so officers can confirm the woman’s welfare and determine whether charges are warranted.
