Cibolo’s busy I-35 retail stretch is getting a taste of the shore. Playa Bowls, the Jersey Shore-born açaí and superfruit chain, is headed to the Shops at Cibolo Bend with its first local shop, aiming for a late-2026 opening. The counter-service spot is positioned to chase morning and midday traffic from commuters, families and nearby base communities north of San Antonio.
A leasing brochure for the Shops at Cibolo Bend lists available units at 513 and 635 Cibolo Valley Drive, confirming the retail center as Playa Bowls’ future home. The marketing materials highlight the center’s position across from a Walmart Supercenter and within reach of nearby schools and an H-E-B, and pitch a mix of second-generation spaces and shell units geared toward national and regional quick-serve concepts.
Where It's Going and When
According to CultureMap San Antonio, Playa Bowls is slated to land at 513 Cibolo Valley Dr. in late 2026. CultureMap also points to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing that estimates construction on the Cibolo Bend Shopping Center will wrap in September, though those state timelines are noted as subject to change.
From Jersey Shore To Cibolo
Launched as a pop-up on the Jersey Shore in 2014, Playa Bowls has grown into a national franchise operation. Per Playa Bowls, the menu leans on more than 40 bowl combinations built from seven purees: açaí, pitaya, coconut, kale, banana, oatmeal and mango, plus a rotating cast of smoothies, cold-pressed juices and cold brew.
Why Cibolo?
Retail energy along the I-35 corridor has been running hot, with grocers and quick-serve chains steadily filling new pads and centers. Sprouts' I-35 grocery play was recently highlighted as part of that same wave, underscoring why franchise operators are circling Cibolo for commuter-friendly concepts. For Playa Bowls, a site tucked near Walmart and H-E-B is positioned to reel in breakfast and lunch traffic from surrounding neighborhoods and base-area customers.
Playa Bowls has not yet shared detailed opening plans or a grand-opening schedule, and CultureMap reports the brand has not provided further public timing updates. Permitting and leasing activity at the Shops at Cibolo Bend will be the ones to watch as construction progresses through the summer and fall.
