Kirkwood’s Wednesday morning started with more grit than anyone ordered, after a water main broke on Kirkwood Road near Manchester and left parts of the city with low or no water and murky taps. Missouri American Water crews moved in early to isolate the leak and begin repairs, and officials cautioned that the outage could stretch into the afternoon as work continued.
According to KSDK, the break was spotted at about 5 a.m., and crews estimated it would take roughly eight hours to fix, with repairs expected to wrap up around 1 p.m. The station reported that customers along the Kirkwood Road–Manchester corridor could see low pressure, no water at all or discolored taps until the job is finished.
How to clear murky water
In an alert for the affected area, American Water advised customers to run cold water at the lowest level of their homes to help flush out discoloration. For cloudy water, the company recommended running taps at the highest level instead. In both cases, the utility said the water should clear after roughly three to five minutes. The alert also asked residents to steer clear of crews working in the roadway and apologized for the hassle.
