Federal agents say a Lake Oswego man ran a sprawling online child exploitation operation that stretched across several states and at least one foreign country, culminating in a raid on his home on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. Prosecutors allege investigators uncovered recordings and other material that show sexually exploitative conduct, and a judge has ordered the suspect held while the case moves forward.
The defendant, identified as 26-year-old Alex Miller Eldridge, is charged by criminal complaint with sexual exploitation of children and possession and distribution of child pornography, according to court filings and reporting by FOX 12. Investigators say Eldridge used multiple online accounts beginning in May 2025 to contact and coerce minors into producing sexually explicit material, allegedly reaching victims in several states and communicating over encrypted messaging platforms.
Federal prosecutors often bring cases like this under the umbrella of Project Safe Childhood, a coordinated effort that links U.S. Attorneys' offices with agencies such as the FBI and Homeland Security Investigations to identify and prosecute people who exploit children online. Federal law criminalizes the production, distribution and receipt of child sexual abuse material, and when alleged conduct crosses state and international borders, federal authorities typically lead the investigation.
According to court documents and investigators, Eldridge allegedly flew from Hawaii to Pennsylvania in December 2024 to sexually abuse a minor he met on the Discord platform, recorded that abuse, then shared the video with other minors. Authorities also say he used Discord and the Session messaging app in 2025 and 2026 to hold sexually themed chats, directed a minor in Colorado and another in Greece to send explicit videos, and threatened to post those images and clips online. Discord reportedly flagged his activity to law enforcement in November 2025, and investigators allege he distributed material again the day before his arrest, details that appear in federal filings and in reporting by FOX 12.
Agents say they executed a search warrant at Eldridge's Lake Oswego home on May 20 and recovered additional evidence of child exploitation activity. Eldridge appeared in federal court on Wednesday, where a judge ordered him detained pending further proceedings. Court records did not immediately indicate whether he had retained an attorney.
Investigators and child-safety advocates note that encrypted and disappearing-message apps can make it harder to trace predators, which in turn forces police and federal task forces to lean heavily on cross-jurisdiction cooperation. Local agencies often work alongside federal partners, technology companies and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children to preserve digital evidence and identify victims in these kinds of cases.
Legal implications
The charges alleged against Eldridge, including production or sexual exploitation of children and distribution of child sexual abuse material, are federal felonies that can carry substantial prison time. Under federal law, including 18 U.S.C. § 2251, production offenses can bring mandatory minimum sentences and lengthy maximum terms, depending on the specific circumstances and any prior convictions. As with any criminal case, these allegations are accusations at this stage, and Eldridge is presumed innocent unless and until he is proven guilty in court.
