Rescue crews rushed to Lake Wylie on Thursday after the York County Sheriff’s Office reported that a person jumped from a boat near Little Allison Creek and did not resurface. Deputies on the lake asked nearby boaters to clear out so search teams could work as dive units and lake-patrol boats swept the cove.
According to Queen City News, the sheriff’s office said crews were called around 2 p.m. and urged the public to stay away while emergency responders gathered at the scene. The outlet described the effort as an active, developing operation as York County dive and patrol teams headed into the area.
Another incident days after a fatal recovery
The call comes just over a week after divers recovered the body of 25-year-old Daniel Moncion, who disappeared while swimming near Tega Cay and the Catawba Dam. WRHI reported that multiple agencies took part in that search and recovery effort.
WBTV noted that crews suspended the search overnight before resuming at first light, using sonar in roughly 35- to 40-foot-deep, “pitch-black” water before locating the missing swimmer. Local coverage also reported that Ebenezer Park Boat Landing served as a staging area for the operation.
