Last Saturday, what started as a meetup arranged through a dating app ended in a reported sexual assault near Russell Road and Broadbent Boulevard, according to Las Vegas police. Investigators say a man picked up a juvenile from her home, drove to the Russell and Broadbent area, sexually assaulted her, then chased her from the vehicle at knifepoint. The victim fled, leaving personal items behind at the scene, and now Metro detectives are asking the public to help identify the man, any vehicle involved, or any footage that might move the case forward.
Police ask for tips and surveillance
According to KTNV, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department says the suspect and juvenile met on a dating app before meeting in person, and the alleged assault happened after he drove to the Russell and Broadbent area. Metro is urging anyone with information to call the Sexual Assault Detail at 702-828-3421, per the LVMPD, and to submit anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers of Nevada at 702-385-5555 or through its website.
Reports and resources
Las Vegas has seen an uptick in sexual-assault reports this spring, with hotlines and advocacy groups reporting increased demand and detectives urging survivors and witnesses to come forward, according to sexual-assault reports soaring. Local service providers say that surge is stretching capacity for counseling and hospital accompaniment, and community resources and crisis hotlines are listed on local advocacy sites for anyone needing immediate support.
How to help and where to get support
Investigators say anyone who was in the Russell and Broadbent area last Saturday, or who has dash-cam, doorbell or other footage from around that time, should contact Metro’s Sexual Assault Detail and preserve any related messages, images or ride details. Survivors seeking confidential assistance can call local crisis lines or the national RAINN hotline at 800-656-4673 for resources and support.
