Crews rolled up shortly before 11:30 p.m. to find smoke coming from the front porch, then quickly tracked the fire to the rear of a first-floor unit. One man escaped down a fire escape, then went back into an upstairs back bedroom, prompting firefighters to search the building before confirming there were no other victims. The bulk of the blaze was knocked down roughly 20 minutes after arrival, and the scene was declared under control at 12:20 a.m. Crews kept working hot spots and called for board-up of six doors and 15 windows.
