A late-night drive-by shooting turned a Wissinoming intersection into a crime scene Friday, wounding a teenager and a man and rattling a stretch of Northeast Philadelphia that has already seen too much gunfire this spring.
The shots rang out around 11 p.m. near the corner of Ditman and Sanger Streets, according to neighbors who spoke with reporters. A 15-year-old boy and a 30-year-old man were both hit in the legs and taken to the hospital, where their injuries were described as stable. Stray bullets also struck a parked pickup truck.
Responding officers found evidence that roughly five to ten rounds had been fired, police said. Investigators have not released the victims' names, and no arrests had been made as of the latest update from 6abc Philadelphia.
Fresh Gunfire on a Problem Block
For neighbors along Ditman Street, the crime scene tape is starting to feel uncomfortably familiar. The drive-by is the latest in a series of overnight shootings along the corridor.
In April, a house party near Ditman and Knorr turned violent when gunfire broke out, wounding three people, as reported by NBC10 Philadelphia. More recently, local coverage has flagged a troubling run of gunfire along that same stretch, leaving residents on edge and looking for answers.
Police Ask Neighbors to Check Their Cameras
Police say they do not yet have a description of the vehicle involved in Friday's drive-by and are still working to identify a suspect and a motive. No arrests have been announced.
Investigators are asking anyone with information to come forward, including residents who may have home surveillance or drivers with dash-cam footage from around the time of the shooting. Tipsters can contact the Philadelphia Police Department's anonymous tip line at 215-686-TIPS or reach the Shooting Investigation Group directly at 215-686-8271, information listed by PhillyVoice.
Detectives continue to canvass the neighborhood, reviewing shell casings and knocking on doors in search of witnesses. This story will be updated if authorities release additional details on the victims, possible suspects, or a vehicle description.
