
Gunfire and a reported street disturbance drew a large police response to the 300 block of Lindsey Street in Fall River late Friday, with officers briefly shutting down the area while they worked to secure the scene and launch an investigation.
According to the City of Fall River Police Department, multiple callers reported shots fired in the neighborhood. The first caller told dispatch that a man with a firearm was trying to break a vehicle window before the line disconnected. A second caller reported that the same man was punching and kicking a vehicle and then threw a large rock at it.
Scene and police actions
Officers quickly established a perimeter along the 300 block of Lindsey Street as ESU and patrol units moved in to manage the scene, according to the department. Detectives began an active investigation and located spent shell casings on the ground while other officers handled crowd and traffic control.
"The area surrounding Lindsey Street has been reopened to the public," the department said in its Facebook update, noting that detectives will continue to investigate the incident and that further information will be released when available.

While officers were on scene, police asked residents to steer clear of the Lindsey Street area and nearby roads, including the lower part of President Avenue and Davol Street northbound. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information is asked to call the non-emergency line at 508-676-8511 or dial 911 in an emergency, according to the Fall River Police Department website.
