Two people are dead and a suspect is in custody after separate early-morning stabbings in Island Park and Valley Stream, according to Nassau County police. The first killing unfolded just after midnight in Island Park, and a second victim was found a few hours later in Valley Stream. Authorities say the suspect knew both victims and was later arrested in Lynbrook. County officials say both incidents remain part of an active homicide investigation.
Two scenes on Long Island
Investigators say the violence started around 12:30 a.m. at a Wendy's on Austin Boulevard in Island Park, where a woman was stabbed while taking out the trash behind the restaurant. A few hours later, at about 3 a.m., the same suspect is accused of fatally stabbing another person in Valley Stream. Officials have released few details so far about the second scene, according to CBS News.
Suspect arrested in Lynbrook
Authorities say the suspect was located and taken into custody outside a 7-Eleven in Lynbrook not long after the attacks. "The suspect knew both victims," Nassau County police told CBS News, a detail that will likely shape how detectives piece together what led up to the overnight violence.
Investigation underway
Detectives are processing multiple crime scenes and treating both killings as homicides while they work to determine a motive and confirm the identities of the victims. ABC7 New York reported that Nassau police were working at the Wendy's on Austin Boulevard along with a second location in Valley Stream as the investigation continued.
