Relatives and neighbors came together in Liberty City on Saturday night to remember two brothers killed while trying to protect their sister. The gathering turned into a quiet vigil, with balloons, prayers and low conversations as family members recalled Jaheim and Gianni Pierre for their faith and fierce loyalty.

Police say 23-year-old Jaheim Pierre and 28-year-old Gianni Pierre were shot and killed after they went to check on their sister last Saturday. Authorities arrested 31-year-old Antwan Carter and charged him with two counts of first-degree murder, according to the Miami Herald.

Building surveillance footage and an arrest report reviewed by local reporters indicate the confrontation began inside the apartment when an argument between Jaheim and his sister escalated and Jaheim struck Carter. Investigators say Carter then left the unit, went to a vehicle to retrieve a handgun, returned and fired into the apartment. Medics pronounced one brother dead at the scene and the other later at Jackson Memorial's Ryder Trauma Center. Carter later surrendered to officers and handed over a 9mm Glock, according to Local 10.

Family Holds Vigil

Friends and relatives released balloons with handwritten messages and shared memories of the brothers' strong family bonds and deep faith. "It's hurting the family, and we're out here. They were a major part of the family," their uncle Gregory said. He added, "Stayed in the house all day. Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, those boys love Jesus," as reported by WSVN.

Investigation and Legal Status

Carter is being held without bond at the county detention center while prosecutors prepare formal case files and upcoming court dates. Authorities say the case remains under active investigation, and officials and court records show he has entered a written not-guilty plea, according to reporting from NBC6.

How to Help

The family has created an online fundraiser to help pay for funeral and memorial costs. A GoFundMe page honoring Gianni and Jaheim includes messages from relatives and neighbors and asks for donations, according to GoFundMe.
