A 20-year-old Miami woman is facing serious felony charges after police say she twice forced her way into her ex-girlfriend's Little Havana apartment during a domestic dispute, allegedly pushing and punching the victim and damaging two doors before she was booked into Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on Thursday.
How police say it unfolded
According to WSVN, officers were dispatched to an apartment in the 600 block of Southwest Seventh Street after a 911 caller reported a domestic disturbance over an open line. Investigators say the suspect, identified in the arrest affidavit as Jessy Nicole Martinez, first knocked on the front door, then allegedly kicked it open and pushed the victim in the chest. The victim struck Martinez to defend herself, which led to a brief fight inside the unit.
Police said Martinez left the apartment but later came back, this time entering through a kitchen door she allegedly kicked open. Once inside, she is accused of punching the victim with a closed fist. A witness's statement matched the victim's account, and officers reported visible damage to both the front and kitchen doors.
Charges and legal stakes
The arrest affidavit lists two charges: burglary with assault or battery and criminal mischief causing more than $200 but less than $1,000 in damage. Under Florida law, burglary with assault or battery is a first-degree felony that can be punished by up to life in prison, per Florida statutes. Criminal mischief in the cited damage range is a first-degree misdemeanor, which carries a potential sentence of up to one year in county jail under Fla. Stat. §806.13.
