Early Saturday on Chicago’s Northwest Side, a tense confrontation in Logan Square ended with a gunfire victim critically injured after being struck by a car that had just come under fire, according to police. The clash pulled neighbors from their routines as ambulances, squad cars and detectives converged on the scene.
What Happened
Police say the incident unfolded around 7:30 a.m. in the 2700 block of North Lawndale Avenue after an argument escalated and five people tried to leave in a vehicle. Someone opened fire on the car, and another person stepped in front of it, briefly blocking the vehicle from pulling away.
The driver then struck that person, who was taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital in critical condition. The Chicago Fire Department treated people inside the vehicle at the scene. One person was taken into custody with charges pending, and Area Five detectives are leading the investigation, according to ABC7 Chicago.
