What was supposed to be a straightforward child pickup in northeast Harris County ended in gunfire Tuesday, leaving one man dead and another facing a murder charge.
Deputies say a 38-year-old man opened fire during the exchange, shooting another man who later died at a hospital. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office identified the suspected shooter as Gary Davis, 38, and the victim as Marlon Sanders, 36, according to Click2Houston. The shooting happened in the 12700 block of Blue Timbers Court, just east of C.E. King Parkway and south of East Little York Road.
Investigators told Click2Houston that Sanders’ wife had been in a relationship with Davis while she was separated from Sanders, and that she has an infant fathered by Davis. When Sanders and his wife arrived to pick up the child, Davis allegedly rushed outside and shot Sanders as he stood near his vehicle.
Investigation and arrest
Deputies with the Harris County Precinct 3 Constable’s Office were first to respond, and Harris County Sheriff’s Office crime-scene and homicide detectives later processed the scene. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said multiple units took part in the investigation, including the violent criminal apprehension team, K-9 units and air support, and noted that no one else was injured. Davis was taken into custody and booked into the Harris County Jail, according to KHOU.
What’s next
Davis has been charged with murder and remains in custody while investigators and prosecutors prepare the case. Officials have not immediately released information about bond or a court date, and detectives are still gathering evidence, Click2Houston reports.
The infant at the center of the pickup was not reported injured. Authorities are asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact investigators. This story will be updated as more details become available.
