Monday night on San Antonio's West Side, a man was shot in the stomach during an attempted burglary at an apartment complex in the 2000 block of SW Loop 410. Police said several masked suspects tried to force their way into a residence before gunfire broke out. A friend or relative drove the wounded man to a nearby hospital, where he was reported to be in stable condition.
According to KENS5, San Antonio police said four masked suspects attempted to burglarize the unit before one of them opened fire. Officers said the group took off in a vehicle and that no suspect descriptions were immediately available. The investigation remains ongoing, authorities noted.
Scene and witnesses
Officers at the scene said the injured man was rushed to the hospital by a friend or relative after the shooting. Children were playing near the complex when the shots rang out and, fortunately, police reported no other injuries. Detectives are canvassing the block and asking neighbors to review any outdoor security or doorbell camera footage that might have captured the suspects or their vehicle.
Other recent apartment shootings
Apartment-related gun violence has been a recurring problem across San Antonio this year, including multiple cases on the West Side. Earlier this month, two people were arrested in connection with a fatal West Side apartment shooting, highlighting the ongoing challenges of policing multiunit properties, as reported by KSAT.
