A large commercial building in Marshall's 3000 block of West Arrow Street went up in flames Thursday evening, with an 80-by-100-foot structure engulfed and a thick column of smoke visible over the area. Multiple fire units were called in as residents shared photos and video on social media, some showing crews battling the blaze in bright daylight and others as they worked into the night. Officials have not yet released a damage estimate.
Firefighters: Building "fully involved"
The Marshall Fire Department told ABC 17 News that the roughly 80-foot-by-100-foot building in the 3000 block of West Arrow Street was already "fully involved" when firefighters arrived and that crews were on scene by about 9 p.m. The department said the cause of the fire has not yet been determined and that a representative did not have immediate information about injuries.
Marshall's fire activity this year
Marshall city records show the fire department has had a steady workload this season. Council minutes from early January list six city fires and two county fires among the agency's recent calls, according to the City of Marshall. The report highlights how frequently local crews are dispatched to structure incidents and medical emergencies in Saline County.
Recent local structure blazes
In recent weeks, smaller structure fires have also kept crews busy. On April 10, Marshall firefighters put out a fire at a vacant business along South Odell after a tree limb knocked down an electrical service line, according to KMMO. That incident caused about $15,000 in damage and did not result in injuries.
Investigation ongoing
Authorities have not yet released a cause or full damage estimate for Thursday's commercial blaze, and the Marshall Fire Department did not have immediate information on possible injuries, per ABC 17 News. Officials have not announced a timeline for completing the scene assessment or said whether state investigators will be brought in.
Officials have not released further details at this time; we will update as more information becomes available.
