San Diego woke up today under a low blanket of clouds, with midday temperatures hovering near 64°F and a modest warmup to around 67°F expected later on. There is a slight chance of light rain before 11 AM, then skies should partly clear through the afternoon as west winds pick up to 5–10 mph with gusts up to 20 mph. Overnight, the marine layer fills back in, the chance for light rain ticks up again, and lows slip to around 57°F.
Afternoon Gusts And Boating Hazards
According to the National Weather Service San Diego, a Wind Advisory is in place from 3 PM today through 5 AM on Thursday, for the mountain and desert zones. Gusts of 40–50 mph are possible, with isolated higher gusts expected through the passes.
Out on the water, a Small Craft Advisory covers the outer waters from 1 PM today through 1 PM tomorrow. Mariners and small-boat operators are urged to avoid the outer waters and secure loose gear. Expect choppy seas near San Clemente Island and an elevated rip-current risk at exposed beaches while the advisory is in effect.
Night Into Wednesday Drizzle And Cooler Inland
The marine layer is expected to deepen to roughly 5,000 feet by early tomorrow. That thicker layer could squeeze out patchy drizzle or light rain late at night into the morning through Thursday, May 28, although totals should stay under a tenth of an inch.
Tomorrow runs cooler away from the coast, with highs near 65°F for both the coast and valleys and much cooler mountain highs in the 40s and 50s. Morning low clouds and reduced visibility could slow early commutes and flights, so it is smart to allow extra time for shore-side travel and airport runs.
Quick Look Ahead
Temperatures moderate late in the week. Look for highs near 68°F on Thursday and about 69°F on Friday, with a gradual warmup into the low 70s by the weekend and highs approaching 75°F next Monday, June 1. Nighttime lows will generally hold in the upper 50s to low 60s. Expect cool, cloudy mornings along the beaches with brighter afternoons inland as the marine layer thins.
What To Do Today
Secure patio furniture and tie down umbrellas in exposed spots, and skip small-boat outings while the Small Craft Advisory is active. If you have morning plans near the shoreline or a flight from San Diego International, budget extra time for fog and patchy drizzle.
