Neighbors and officers responded to the 400 block of East 73rd Street and discovered the man with multiple wounds. He has not yet been publicly identified.
Autopsy and investigation
Area 1 detectives are leading the investigation into the killing. An autopsy conducted Tuesday by the Cook County medical examiner found the man died of multiple sharp‑force injuries and ruled the death a homicide, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. The outlet also reported that the attack took place during the long Memorial Day holiday weekend.
Recent violence in the neighborhood
The stabbing unfolded against a backdrop of other recent violence in the South Side neighborhood. On May 8, a shooting in the 300 block of West 75th Street left one person dead and two others seriously wounded, CBS Chicago reported.
