Sunday, May 31, 2026 — Memphis woke up socked in by thick, visibility-shrinking fog this morning, with temperatures in the low 70s at local observing sites and a Dense Fog Advisory in effect until 9:00 a.m. CDT. Visibility could drop to a quarter mile or less, so the morning commute may be slow and hazardous. Forecasters expect the fog to thin by midmorning as skies turn mostly sunny and the mercury climbs toward a high near 90°F.
Foggy Morning, Sunny Afternoon
According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, the Dense Fog Advisory runs through 9:00 a.m. CDT and warns of visibility down to one-quarter mile in low-lying areas. See National Weather Service Memphis for the latest advisories and updates. By midday and into the afternoon, skies should be mostly sunny, setting up hot conditions with highs near 90°F.
Storm Chances Tonight And Monday
A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms is expected late tonight after 9:00 p.m., with coverage increasing Monday, June 1, 2026. Forecasters say storms Monday could organize in the afternoon and evening, producing heavy downpours and gusty winds, and much of the area carries a Marginal risk for damaging wind gusts. We covered this returning storm pattern earlier this week in fogged-in mornings and sweltering afternoons.
Heat And Safety
Heat index values could reach around 100-101°F in the hottest hours Monday afternoon, so plan to stay hydrated and limit strenuous outdoor activity. Brief heavy rain may cause localized flooding, so never drive through flooded roadways and give crews room to work.
What To Expect Later This Week
A front should push through Tuesday, bringing drier air and highs easing into the low- to mid-80s on Tuesday and Wednesday. Expect lower humidity and northeast breezes of 5-15 mph, with a mostly dry stretch before rain chances return late in the weekend.
