Shoppers at the Target near Power Road and Hampton Avenue in Mesa saw their Sunday night run for essentials turn into a crime scene when a shooting inside the store sent one person to the hospital and shut the location down for the rest of the night while detectives worked the case. Police said the suspected shooter took off before officers arrived, and no arrests had been reported as of late Sunday.
The gunfire broke out around 8 p.m. inside the store, according to Arizona's Family. That outlet reports the shooting appeared to stem from an isolated dispute between two people, and that the suspect left the scene before officers got there. Detectives kept the Target closed Sunday night as they processed the scene.
Mesa police told ABC15 they were called just before 8 p.m. to the shopping center near US 60 and Power Road, and that at least one person was taken to the hospital conscious and breathing. Officers said they do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public. The store remained closed for the night as detectives conducted their investigation.
Police Investigating Inside Store
Detectives spent hours inside the Target collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses, Arizona's Family reports. Authorities have not released the victim’s name or other identifying details while the investigation continues.
