A late-night ride on U.S. Route 41 in North Chicago turned tragic for 36-year-old Grayslake resident Rudolfo Suris, who died Wednesday, May 13, from injuries suffered in a motorcycle crash there earlier this month. Authorities say he was thrown from his bike after it struck the rear of another vehicle during an early-morning collision on May 7.
According to the Chicago Tribune, the wreck happened at about 12:08 a.m., when Suris' 2021 BMW motorcycle hit the back of a Kia sedan while both vehicles were heading north on Route 41. He was taken to Lake Forest Hospital, then later treated at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, before the Lake County Coroner's Office confirmed his death on Wednesday.
Investigation Underway
North Chicago police and the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team responded to the scene, and the collision remains under investigation, according to the Lake County News-Sun. Officials have not released any information about the Kia's driver or whether charges might be filed while investigators review evidence and await the full findings from the coroner.
Route 41 Safety Concerns
U.S. Route 41 has seen its share of serious motorcycle crashes in recent years, a pattern local coverage has documented and that regularly brings in specialized crash teams. In one 2023 case on the same corridor, a motorcyclist died after colliding with an SUV, as reported by the Lake and McHenry County Scanner.
The Lake County Coroner's Office confirmed Suris' death, according to the Chicago Tribune, and the crash remains under investigation, according to the Lake County News-Sun. Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact the North Chicago Police Department as they work to determine what led to the deadly early-morning collision.
