A routine stop at a south Phoenix gas station turned deadly Wednesday morning when a woman was hit by a vehicle and later died at the hospital, according to police.
Fire crews and officers were called around 9:30 a.m. to the area of 7th Avenue and Broadway Road, where they found the woman unresponsive in the parking lot. First responders rushed her to a nearby hospital, but she was pronounced dead a short time later, Arizona's Family reported. Her name has not yet been released.
Detectives Lock Down Gas Station Lot
Phoenix police set up crime scene tape around part of the gas station as detectives and evidence technicians went to work. Officers stayed on scene for several hours while investigators photographed the lot, mapped the area and started piecing together what led to the collision.
Police have not released information about the driver, how the crash unfolded, or whether any charges might be filed. No arrests have been announced.
Drone Video Shows Scooter, Pickup With Trailer
Drone footage aired by Arizona's Family showed a scooter on its side near the entrance of the gas station, with a section of the parking lot taped off around a pickup truck pulling a trailer. The outlet reported that the driver involved stayed at the scene while investigators interviewed witnesses.
Deadly Pattern On Arizona Streets
The crash adds to a grim tally for people on foot across the state. According to ADOT, Arizona saw 2,079 pedestrian crashes and 263 pedestrian deaths in 2024. Maricopa County accounted for 1,516 of those crashes and 158 of the fatalities. State officials have cited speeding, impairment and road design as major factors in pedestrian deaths.
Phoenix police say their investigation into Wednesday’s incident is ongoing and that more details will be released when they are available.
