The Taqueria Amor boss is turning the small storefront at 4388 Main St into Riptide Tavern, a shore-inspired hangout that aims for a quiet late June debut, a tight 38-seat setup and a jukebox-first vibe. Expect beach memorabilia on the walls, casual bar food on the tables and a scene built for neighbors who are in no rush to call it a night.
Inside the Shore-Inspired Spot
“We’re trying to create an endless summer in Manayunk,” Spinner said, describing how vintage surfboards, family photos and other beach memorabilia will line the walls. The compact space is planned to seat about 38 guests and will feature a jukebox stocked with roughly 100 albums released before 2004, so think throwback nights more than Top 40. Riptide's kitchen will keep things short and scratch-made, focusing on bar staples such as fish and chips, crab dip and a prime-rib French-dip sandwich, with rotating daily specials bringing some variety to the lineup. The drinks list is built for a beachy mood, with citrus crushes, bright cocktails and budget-friendly beers leading the way. To keep the vibe social instead of screen-glued, the team plans to encourage conversation with a take-your-phone-outside house rule, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.
From Taqueria Amor To Riptide
Spinner is already a Main Street regular. His Taqueria Amor at 4410 Main St has anchored the block for years, giving him a built-in audience for a new spot just down the street. His time in Philadelphia kitchens, including early stints with Jose Garces, shapes the straightforward, from-scratch approach the team plans to bring to Riptide’s rotating specials. Taqueria Amor’s website lists the Manayunk location and menu details that will likely help cross-promote the new tavern, Taqueria Amor.
Where It Fits On Main Street
Riptide is landing in the middle of a fresh wave of openings and reboots on Main Street, joining projects such as Love City Brewing’s collaboration with Sophie’s BBQ that have shifted the block’s dining landscape in recent months. The 4388 storefront itself has long been home to small retail operations, most notably Clairvoyant Monica, who ManayunkMag profiled as a longtime Main Street tenant. For neighbors, Riptide is being framed as a local-scale bar rather than a big destination spot, keeping with the block’s tradition of low-key watering holes, local coverage shows.
Soft Opening Details
Riptide is planning a soft opening at the end of June, and Spinner said the team will simply flip the sign and peel the paper off the windows when they are ready to let people in. Standout cocktails named in the interview include the Hawaiian-inspired “Midnight Luau,” a vanilla-and-passion-fruit “Siren Porn Startini” and a passion-fruit mai tai topped with foam, all part of the bright, beach-leaning drink list.
