Shagun Indian Cuisine in North Highlands is going all in on a grand opening this Friday after what was essentially a whisper-quiet launch and a soft reopening last winter. The owners say this do-over is about finally putting the restaurant on the local radar and building a bigger, steadier customer base. Teaser clips on the restaurant’s social media promise mocktails, fusion snacks and an amped-up focus on chai and Indian coffee.
As reported by The Sacramento Bee, owner Baljinder Singh admitted the restaurant "never actually advertised" when it first opened and is hoping this grand reopening will fix that oversight. The Bee notes that the announcement rolled out through a series of cinematic Instagram videos from the account @shagun_cuisine916. Singh told the paper the event is meant to reach "a bigger connection of people" as the kitchen leans into broader flavors.
Menu Keeps Classics And Flirts With Fusion
Shagun is hanging on to staples like chicken tikka masala and biryani while layering in playful mashups such as hot-Cheeto loaded fries and Western-style desserts. The restaurant also plans to roll out mocktails, including a mango-and-chamoy drink, according to The Sacramento Bee. Chai and an "Indian coffee" described as stronger and spiced will get star billing, nodding to traditional flavors that management hopes will still feel approachable to newcomers. The bet is that a mix of familiar curries and Instagram-friendly mashups will help turn curious visitors into regulars.
On The Map And Chasing Weeknight Crowds
The restaurant is already plugged into mapping and delivery platforms with regular lunch and dinner hours, signaling that it is set up for both dine-in and takeout. Apple Maps lists contact information and hours, and review hubs such as TripAdvisor already show recent customer feedback. If the grand opening does its job and draws a bigger crowd, the owners say they are aiming for more reliable weeknight traffic in North Highlands.
Community listings indicate the restaurant first opened in 2022 and returned in December 2024 after a temporary closure, according to its Nextdoor business page. The owner says this May marketing push is a deliberate attempt to change the restaurant’s trajectory and connect with new diners.
