A late-night argument outside a North Nashville apartment complex turned violent Monday when a man was shot in the leg on the 2500 block of 25th Avenue North, according to Metro Nashville police. Officers arrived around 10 p.m. to find the wounded man and took him to a nearby hospital. Police did not immediately release his condition, and the case remains under investigation.
Detectives believe the gunfire started with an argument among a group of people gathered outside one of the apartment buildings, Metro police told WSMV. Exactly what sparked the dispute has not been made public, and investigators are still working to piece together how a sidewalk confrontation ended with someone in an ambulance.
A Troubled Stretch on 25th Avenue North
The Monday night shooting is only the latest burst of violence along the 25th Avenue North corridor. Earlier this month, a 3‑year‑old girl was killed in a parking lot near the Cumberland View Apartments at 25th and Dowlan, as reported by NewsChannel 5. That shooting rattled residents and drew renewed attention to safety around the complex.
Not long before that, two people were hurt in another shooting on the same 2500 block of 25th Avenue North, according to a separate NewsChannel 5 report. Taken together, the incidents highlight how frequently this short stretch has landed on police blotters in recent weeks.
Crime Numbers Are Down, But Neighbors Still Feel the Heat
City officials point out that violent crime overall is trending lower this year, even as hotspots like North Nashville continue to absorb a disproportionate share of the gunfire. A report from the Metro Mayor's Office notes declines in several violent crime categories while city leaders say they are concentrating resources on community safety and targeted enforcement efforts.
