What started as a reported garage break-in in Oak Grove on Tuesday ended with a crumpled SUV, a rollover crash, and one suspect headed to the hospital in serious condition, according to the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies say they arrested the suspected burglar after a short pursuit that ended near Southeast Oatfield Road and Southeast Park Avenue, where the white SUV he was driving crashed, rolled, and collided with other vehicles. The driver, identified from surveillance as Scotty Nicholas Oldfield, was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. The other motorist involved declined medical treatment. Deputies say they pulled suspected stolen items from the wrecked vehicle, and the investigation is still very much active.
According to KOIN, the chain of events started when a 911 caller reported seeing a man walk into a garage, grab items, and leave. The caller provided security images that helped deputies identify a suspect and his vehicle and told dispatchers the man was driving a white Ford Explorer. Deputies later spotted a vehicle matching that description and tried to pull it over. Instead of stopping, investigators say, the driver hit the gas.
How deputies say the chase unfolded
A deputy first located the white Ford Explorer on Southeast Roethe Road. As officers moved in, the sheriff’s office says the driver sped away, kicking off a brief pursuit through the area.
The attempt to get away did not last long. According to investigators, the SUV struck another occupied vehicle, rolled, and then hit a parked car near the intersection of Southeast Oatfield Road and Southeast Park Avenue. The driver of the occupied vehicle declined medical care at the scene, while Oldfield was taken to a hospital with serious injuries before being placed under arrest. Deputies say suspected stolen property was found inside the SUV.
The original 911 call came from the 17000 block of Southeast River Road, FOX 12 reported. The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information about the case to call 503-723-4949 and reference case number 26-008541.
Charges and warrants
The sheriff’s office says Oldfield is now facing a long list of charges, including second-degree burglary, first-degree theft, attempting to elude a police officer, reckless driving, recklessly endangering another person, DUII, and identity theft, among others, as detailed by KOIN.
Investigators also say Oldfield has multiple outstanding warrants out of both Oregon and Washington, for alleged offenses ranging from failure to appear on DUII cases to robbery and assault. The sheriff’s office reports the investigation is ongoing.
