Yesterday, a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 377 in Collinsville turned into a multi-county pursuit when a motorcyclist reportedly ignored officers’ signals to pull over. The chase stretched across parts of north Texas and into southern Oklahoma before ending in Thackerville. One person was taken into custody, and authorities reported no injuries. Police say the motorcycle did not have a license plate when officers first tried to stop it.
How the Chase Unfolded
Officers first attempted to stop the southbound motorcycle on Highway 377 in Collinsville. Instead of yielding, the rider took off, and the pursuit rolled through Cooke, Grayson, and Denton counties before crossing the state line into Love County, Oklahoma. The chase came to a stop in Thackerville, where officers halted the bike and took one person into custody, according to KTEN.
Why Motorcycle Pursuits Are Especially Risky
Motorcycle pursuits are widely viewed as particularly dangerous because riders have less protection and are more likely to lose control at speed. Human Rights Watch and prior DPS data have pointed to higher fatality rates in motorcycle chases and have pushed for tighter pursuit rules to reduce the risk to everyone on the road, according to Human Rights Watch.
What Officials Are Saying So Far
Authorities have not yet released the name of the person arrested or specified any charges, and booking details were not available at the time of reporting. KTEN reported that multiple agencies joined in the pursuit and that investigators are continuing to review how the incident unfolded.
