Saturday evening in West Point turned deadly when an adult man was found shot to death on the porch of a home in a residential neighborhood, prompting a heavy response from the Davis County Sheriff's Office. Deputies arrived after reports of gunfire, and the suspect remained on the loose as neighbors watched officers canvass the block and investigators comb the scene for evidence.
What officials say
According to KUTV, deputies were called to the area near 2000 West and 300 North around 6:25 p.m. and found an adult male victim on a porch. The station reported that the suspect had not been identified and was still at large into the evening, citing initial details from Davis County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Megan Maybee.
Vehicle description and last known route
Witnesses told investigators the suspect took off in a maroon sedan with an orange cover over the rear license plate, FOX13 reported. The car was last seen heading north on 2000 West before turning east onto 300 North. Authorities are warning residents not to approach the vehicle or anyone matching that description and to call 911 immediately if they spot it.
How to report tips
The Davis County Sheriff's Office is asking anyone with information to call 911 for urgent sightings. For less time-sensitive tips, the agency directs the public to its non-emergency phone numbers and anonymous tip portal listed on its website. The Davis County Sheriff's Office site includes contact numbers and an online submission form.
Local context
The killing is the latest public-safety scare in the small Davis County city this month. Earlier, on May 16, a threat briefly sent West Point Junior High into lockdown and brought deputies in for a sweep of the campus, an incident previously covered by Hoodline. The combination of that earlier school threat and this latest porch shooting on residential streets has left many neighbors uneasy while detectives keep working the case.
Investigators have not released the suspect’s identity or any information about a possible motive, and the case remains active. We will update this story as authorities provide more information.
