Portland woke up under clear skies and a crisp 54°F at Portland International Airport early Sunday, a classic spring start that will give way to a comfortably warm afternoon. Expect partly sunny skies with a high near 73°F today, then a gentle slide back into the low 70s by late afternoon. Northwest winds should stay on the mild side, around 1–7 mph, setting up a low-drama day for strolls, yardwork or a long-overdue coffee on the patio.
Afternoon And Early-Week Warmth
High pressure is rebuilding to kick off the workweek, and that means a noticeable warm-up for inland neighborhoods. Temperatures are on track to reach about 81°F on Monday, then climb to a toasty peak near 87°F on Tuesday. North winds Monday could gust into the mid teens, roughly 15–18 mph, before backing off by midweek. The inland Willamette Valley and other interior spots will feel the brunt of the heat, while the coast and higher terrain stay several degrees cooler.
Morning Clouds, Patio-Perfect Afternoons
Low clouds and a weak onshore flow will keep the coast and Cascade foothills on the cooler side in the mornings, but inland areas should clear by late morning, opening the door to plenty of sun. The pattern lines up with the warm-up flagged in the May 4 preview Portland nears 80. If you are heading to the river or the beaches, plan on a light layer early in the day and sunscreen once the afternoon sun settles in.
Coastal And Marine Advisory
Boaters will want to keep an eye on a Small Craft Advisory Monday, May 11, from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. PDT for nearshore zones PZZ252, PZZ253, PZZ272 and PZZ273. Gusts could reach up to 25 knots, about 29 mph, with seas building to 5–7 feet. There is also a modest chance of showers and thunderstorms late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, May 12–13, mainly between about 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. inland, which could deliver brief heavy downpours. These marine and timing details come from the National Weather Service Portland.
